GHOST STORY

Save your home from haunted demons in this first-person shooter thriller!

This is the story of a hero who’s fallen in battle. He has been given a second chance at life, but he must free his family’s home from a horde of demons who are seeking revenge on the hero.

He can shoot laser blasts to exorcise the demons, but the demons’ ghosts will live on temporarily and can cause great damage if they catch him. Luckily those giant demons will disappear on their own or can also be defeated by the hero. Finding and exorcising all demons (96 in all) will let the hero reunite with his family.

This was made for Academy of Art's Prototype Development class with a crew of 5 people. This was finished in May 2015, but I've went through and fixed some bugs (in the interactive title screen) and added some minor features (ammo pickup). For the most part, this is the same game we turned in, but polished enough to be presentable on my website, and will also be submitted to the 2016 Spring Show!

In the making of this game, I learned how to team up to make a solid polished game. We learned about hard deadlines and making sure testing a game before a major public playtest is absolutely essential. We learned how to spread out roles, making sure everyone had a hand in fixing and polishing the game engine, since we all had little professional C# skills. I think that last part helped all of us find out we knew more about coding than we thought. This was my second time being in a design team and first taking the lead role. The idea of the game came as a spinoff of my Thesis Project proposal about a dead hero trying to regain his life, but it was not approved. The game is named after a Coldplay song and album.

HOW TO PLAY:

  • Hold the Left Mouse Button to Shoot. Ammo reloads slowly, but you can reload quicker by holding the RIGHT Mouse Button or by collecting blue Ammo Cubes (2016 version only).

  • You have 4 lives. There are no extra live items. You die everytime you run out of health and return to a spawn point. You lose health by hitting enemies, their bullets, or by touching the big ghost enemies. Restore health using the Red Cubes. (Green in 2015 version)

  • Use WASD or Arrow Keys to move around.

  • Defeat all enemies outside to move inside. Defeat all enemies inside to win the game. When you defeat a regular enemy, his ghost briefly haunts you and can cause a lot of damage. Either shoot him enough times to make him go away, or wait for him to disappear automatically after a few seconds.
